Position Summary:

 

Responsible for the engineering of electrical power distribution and electrical component sizing.   Provides engineering technical support and maintenance for electrical systems including transformers, switchgear, substations, circuit breakers, motor starters, protective relays, SCADA, generators.  Identifies and implements continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.  Develops schedules for new electrical installations and infrastructure improvement projects.   Coordinates work with outside engineering firms, electric utility and electrical installation.   Has an understanding of medium voltage, high voltage, motors, drives, schematics, and associated circuitry.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop/implement cost savings ideas and overall process improvements.
  • Insure compliance with regulatory, company, and departmental Safety and Environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Management and execution of planned maintenance
  • Work with power supplier to coordinate outages and preventive maintenance
  • Oversee electrical contractors as needed
  • Equipment specifications, factory drawing review and acceptance testing of electrical equipment including switchgear, high voltage breakers, GIS, transformers, and electrical power distribution
  • Familiar with GE Multilin protection relays, SEL substation relays
  • Variable Frequency Drives, selection and maintenance.
  • Set reliability practices as related to Power Distribution and Transformers
  • Manage Arc Flash compliance program
  • Troubleshooting switchgear and relay controls electrical systems.
  • Conduct short-circuit, protective device coordination and arc-flash studies
  • Provide technical assistance as needed within KAI
  • Work in the field assisting on shut-downs, startups and maintenance projects
  • Order parts and supplies required by projects, etc.
  • Have strong trouble shooting skills
  • Ability to train others

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering with 5-7 years of relevant experience in petrochemical, midstream or other heavy industries
  • Experience with medium & high voltage work (15KV, 5KV & 480V) required.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards (e.g. NEC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC etc.) is required.
  • PLC knowledge and troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with transmission level distribution substations (138KV) preferred.
  • Demonstrated oral/written communication skills: presents information and ideas to individuals or groups in an articulate and organized way, appropriate to the audience, and under a wide range of communication situations.
  • Strong problem analysis, judgment and decision making skills.
  • Computer skills are required MS Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a broad range of personnel; position requires productive interactions with every department in the company
